About Landon!
Tell us about your clinical experience:
I started my mental health career while I was in grad school as a therapeutic mentor. I would spend time in group homes with teenagers who were struggling at home and needed to receive therapy in a different environment. From there, I worked in schools, supporting kids in managing strong emotions with the goal of keeping them in class so they could learn. I have extensive experience with intellectual and developmental disabilities and have done both in-home behavioral therapy and residential-based crisis counseling. About half of my experience is with crisis counseling in the community. My experience with outpatient therapy began five years ago, and I have continued to develop my skills as a therapist since. All of these experiences have been very important in molding me into the therapist that I am today.
What’s it like to be in a therapy session with you?
I am very personable. I don’t like a stuffy counseling environment, nor do I force positivity. Sometimes situations just aren’t great, and we need to be real about it. I like to talk through situations to see if there is a more helpful or effective way to manage them or to prepare for the next time they come up. Therapy isn’t meant to be aimless talking; rather, it should be focused on helping you move forward.
What do you specialize in? (both diagnoses and approaches)
I specialize in both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. The diagnoses and issues I primarily work with include depression, anxiety, autism spectrum disorders, men’s issues, stress management, and major life transitions.
What do you want your future clients to know?
Therapy can fit your needs. If you want to come and vent, pull apart situations, or learn more about how to cope, I’m here for it. I don’t want you to feel like I’m just talking at you; rather, I am on your team, helping you through what’s going on by collaborating with you.
What’s your favorite Disney/cartoon character?
Bandit from Bluey has become a role model of sorts for me as a dad. From my childhood (or adulthood if I’m being real), I really like Timon and Pumbaa from The Lion King.
Favorite pastimes outside of work?
Fishing, drums, video games, reading, and spending time with my family.
Guilty pleasure food?
It’s not so much a guilty pleasure, just something I’ve had people say is weird. If I only ate sandwiches for the rest of my life, I’d be happy.
Coffee order?
Cold brew with a splash of milk.
